Strategic advisor. Communications leader. Problem solver.
For more than 20 years, I have helped mission-driven organizations strengthen communications, engage stakeholders, navigate change, and align strategy with action.
As a former Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, I have advised presidents, boards, executive teams, faculty, staff, donors, and community leaders through opportunities and challenges ranging from organizational transformation and digital engagement to crisis communications and strategic planning.
Today, through Paul Redfern Consulting, I help organizations clarify priorities, strengthen visibility, and build practical strategies that drive long-term success.
My Approach
The most effective communications and marketing efforts begin with listening.
Every organization has a unique culture, set of challenges, and strategic priorities. Before recommending solutions, I take the time to understand what makes an organization successful, where opportunities exist, and what obstacles stand in the way of progress.
My work focuses on helping organizations:
Clarify messaging and positioning
Strengthen stakeholder engagement
Improve digital visibility and effectiveness
Navigate change and complex communications challenges
Align communications and marketing with organizational goals
Build sustainable systems and processes
I believe successful strategies are practical, actionable, and built to last long after a project is complete.
My Story
A high school coach once described me as the "scrappiest" player on the team.
At the time, I wasn't sure if it was a compliment. Looking back, it may have been one of the most important lessons I ever received. I've never needed to be the smartest person in the room, but what I've always been is persistent.
That persistence led me from serving as a college basketball manager and assistant coach to a career in admissions, communications, marketing, and executive leadership. Along the way, I learned the value of listening, building relationships, and helping people work toward shared goals.
Those same principles continue to guide my work today.
When I'm not consulting, you'll often find me coaching youth basketball, serving in community leadership roles, or spending time with my wife and three children in Northern New York.
